Creating a sense of belonging and a tangible connection with employees can be challenging in remote work. Humi HR, a fully remote company across Canada, understands the importance of making a great first impression with new hires. That’s why they partnered with Genumark to develop an innovative welcome kit that not only delights recipients but is also helpful in everyday life.
Tasha Simpson, Lead of Employee Experience at Humi HR, was driven by the need to scale their onboarding process efficiently as the company grew. “Originally, we were just building kits and shipping them out of our Toronto HQ office, which was not scalable. So I proposed to our People Team that we make newly updated kits and have a company ship them out for us, which ultimately would be easier if we scaled,” Tasha explained. This strategic shift was essential for maintaining a personal touch while managing logistics more effectively.
The selection of items for the onboarding kit was meticulous, focusing on quality and utility. “When building this onboarding kit, I wanted items that were updated from what we had – and I wanted some higher quality items that folks would actually use,” says Tasha. The kit includes a MiiR branded coffee/water bottle, branded crew-neck sweater, t-shirt, backpack, custom stickers, and a custom box. Some older tote bags and custom note cards were also included. Tasha emphasizes the importance of the ‘wow’ factor alongside practicality, ensuring the items are cherished by employees even beyond their tenure at the company.
The new kits, affectionately known as Humiogs, have been a hit among Humi’s employees. The enthusiasm is not just limited to internal feedback; it spills over onto social media, where employees share their excitement and appreciation for their welcome gifts. This external validation boosts employee morale and enhances Humi’s brand visibility and employer reputation.
The decision to partner with Genumark was based on thorough research and a promising initial engagement. Tasha recalls the process: “I was researching swag companies in Toronto and came across Genumark. I had a really great introduction with them and then started on this project!” The positive dynamics and the expertise of Genumark’s team were key factors in her decision.
The collaboration with Genumark was characterized by a good flow from conception to execution. “We had a seamless experience getting samples of the items to actual production,” Tasha shares. She worked closely with Chris and Miguel from Genumark, fine-tuning the designs and selecting high-quality items that matched their vision. The process included continuous feedback and adjustments, ensuring that every detail was perfect. The logistical ease of shipping the kits to new hires, complete with tracking details, added to the smooth execution of the project.
Humi’s partnership with Genumark extends beyond the welcome kits. Tasha reveals exciting plans for future collaborations, including a branded fanny pack designed for a company-wide in-person event, Humidays, with a fun camp theme’ “We worked alongside Miguel and Chris again to come up with some fun ideas,” she notes, highlighting the creative and supportive role Genumark played in bringing these ideas to life.
Humi HR’s initiative to revamp their employee welcome kits with Genumark’s expertise highlights the power of thoughtful employee engagement strategies in remote work environments. Through high-quality, useful products and a seamless delivery system, Humi HR enhances its operational efficiency and strengthens its connection with employees, making them feel valued from day one.
