We continuously strive to foster an inclusive workplace that demonstrates our commitment to the diversity, openness, and progress. On this note, it is important for us to acknowledge the lasting legacy of the residential school system in Canada. Our hearts go out to the Indigenous communities across the country and any of our self-identifying employees. We felt the need to get involved and make positive moves toward a future where all people are treated as equal.
As a result, we’ve partnered with the Birch Bark Coffee Company to bring you an exclusive, limited edition coffee blend, RECONCILIATION. This dark-roasted coffee from small producers in Latin America, with hints of burnt honey, pipe tobacco and cocoa powder, specially blended for us in the spirit of Orange Shirt Day (National Day for Truth and Reconciliation) on September 30, in support of the Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund.
The Birch Bark Coffee Company supports Indigenous makers & growers world-wide, normally setting aside portions of the profits from their coffee towards renewable water sources in Indigenous communities. For this campaign, they have instead dedicated a portion of profits from each bag of Birch Bark’s Reconciliation Blend to go towards the Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund, an organization committed to supporting reconciliation through awareness, education & connection.
Birch Bark Coffee Company
Indigenous-owned and operated, Birch Bark Coffee Company is on a mission to make a difference in people’s lives, from supporting Indigenous farmers & harvesters, to providing clean water solutions to Canada’s Indigenous communities. We recently had the opportunity to chat with Birch Bark’s founder, Mark Marsolais-Nahwegahbow, where he told us more about the story behind his vision. Learn more about Mark and Birch Bark’s journey here.
Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund
We are proud to partner with Birch Bark Coffee Company in support of the Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund, and can’t wait to share this unique opportunity with you! We’ve chosen this organization to support, as we believe in their mission and wish to contribute to their success:
Inspired by Chanie’s story and Gord’s call to build a better Canada, the Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund aims to build cultural understanding and create a path toward reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples.
Our goal is to improve the lives of Indigenous people by building awareness, education, and connections between all peoples in Canada
